H.M.S. Pinafore by Gilbert and Sullivan |
I recently bought a Naxos re-issue of a 1948 recording of Gilbert and Sullivan's H.M.S. Pinafore with Martyn Green, Leslie Rands, and other members of the D'Oyly Carte Opera Company and the New Promenade Orchestra conducted by Isidore Godfrey. This was one of Decca's "Full Frequency Range Recordings" and the sound sounds very good to me. A very enjoyable performance. Martyn Green is especially good as Sir Joseph Porter, "the ruler of the Queen's Navee." |
