Philips has released a recording of Alzira, with Fabio Luisi conducting the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, the Chorus of the Geneva Grand Théâtre, and a cast including Marina Mescheriakova and Ramón Vargas. Used copies are usually available from amazon.com. Fred Cohn wrote in Opera News of January 2002, "The vocal hero of the set is Ramón Vargas. His tangy lyric tenor rings out freely throughout its range; his line is taut yet elastic. This is Verdi singing of the first order." ---
